Azerbaijan and Turkey started joint live-fire exercise in Baku on June 28, the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported today.
The “Mustafa Kemal Ataturk – 2021” drills are in line with the agreement on military cooperation between the two countries.
The two-day drills will last until June 30 and involve up to 600 military personnel, 40 tanks and other armored vehicles, 20 artillery pieces and mortars of various caliber, the ministry said.
Seven combat, and transport helicopters, three unmanned aerial vehicles for various purposes, as well as up to 50 auto vehicles will also be used during the drills.
The exercises aim to improve interoperability between the units of the armies of the two countries during combat operations, to develop the military decision-making skills of the commanders, as well as their ability to control military units, the ministry said.
Another joint drills were held in Nakhchivan on June 21-23 between the Nakhchivan garrison troops and the Turkish armed forces.
The Azerbaijan Air Force aviation last week participated in “Anatolian Eagle – 2021” held in Turkey’s Konya city.
