Azerbaijan said Armenia seeks to aggravate situation on border
Baku on Friday reported that one of its soldiers was killed in a sniper fire from the Armenian side on the border Kalbajar region.
Armenian army units in the Basarkechar region fired at the Azerbaijan Army positions in the area of the Kalbajar region of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border on July 23 at 16:00 (GMT+4), the ministry said.
The Azerbaijan Army serviceman, warrant officer Yagubli Farman lost his life as a result of sniper fire of the opposing side, ministry reported.
The ministry described the incident as an Armenian provocation aimed at aggravating the situation on the state border of the two countries.
It stressed that the Azerbaijan Army Units stationed in this direction are taking retaliatory actions.
On July 19, the Azerbaijani Defence Minister instructed the army’s command staff to suppress possible provocations of the Armenian armed forces. Analyzing the latest situation in the liberated territories, including on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, the minister stressed that Armenia bears responsibility for the escalation of tension.
Azerbaijan had reported cease-fire violation by Armenia earlier on July 16-17.
The situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border has been tense as the two countries have failed to reach an agreement on border demarcation since November 2020.
