Azerbaijan leader in CIS for COVID-19 vaccination

Azerbaijan is the leader among the CIS countries for the percentage of citizens who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, Day.az reported on June 10.

Some 18 percent of citizens have received vaccine jabs in the nationwide vaccination process that started on January 18.

Azerbaijan is also ahead of the European region where 17 percent of population has received vaccine jabs,  according to WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Henri Kluge.

Azerbaijan was the first country in the South Caucasus and Central Asia to start nationwide vaccination that is free and on voluntary basis.

As of June 10, Azerbaijan – the nation of over ten millions – has vaccinated 2,662,038 of its citizens using China’s Sinovac, Vaxzevria vaccine produced by AstraZeneca, Russia’s Sputnik V and US-produced Pfizer.

Some 37,162 vaccine jabs were administered in the country on June 10.

Azerbaijan has so far registered 334,992 COVID-19 cases and 4,951 fatalities.
