Baku on August 15 reported an Armenian military provocation near Azerbaijan’s Shusha city where Russian peacekeepers have been temporarily stationed.
The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported that armed men who arrived in Shusha’s Khalfali settlement in two civilian cars, opened fire in the air in the direction of the Azerbaijani Army units at about 22:14 [GMT+4] and immediately left the area.
The ministry said there are no losses or wounded among the military personnel of the Azerbaijan Army and that the Russian peacekeeping contingent has been informed about the incident.
Armenian units also continued firing at Azerbaijani positions in Nakhchivan’s Sadarak region on the night leading to August 15 using large-caliber weapons from from their positions in the Arazdeyen settlement of the Vedi region, the ministry said.
Baku has repeatedly urged Yerevan to withdraw Armenian troops from the Azerbaijani lands where Russian peacekeepers were stationed in line with the November trilateral statement.
Russia stationed its 2,000-strong peacekeeping mission along the line of the contact between Azerbaijan and Armenia after last year’s war.
Azerbaijani Defence Ministry on August 11 called on Russia to put an end to the deployment of Armenian armed forces in territories where Russian peacekeepers are temporarily stationed.
The ministry stressed that Armenia is purposefully resorting to provocations to aggravate the situation.
