The order comes after Armenian forces fired at Azerbaijani Army positions along the state border two days ago.
The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry Zakir Hasanov on July 19 ordered the army’s command staff to suppress possible provocations of the Armenian armed forces.
Hasanov made the remarks during an official meeting held at the Central Command Post.
Analyzing the latest situation in the liberated territories, including on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, the minister stressed that Armenia bears responsibility for the escalation of tension.
Reiterating Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s earlier statement that “The war is over. Nevertheless, we are ready and must be ready for war at any moment”, Hasanov stressed the importance of increasing the level of moral-psychological and combat training of military personnel.
He also inquired about the engineering work and engineering support of troops and gave relevant directives to improve service and combat activities.
The meeting was attended by deputies of minister of defense, commanders of types of troops, chiefs of main departments, departments, and services of the ministry. Commanders of the Army Corps and formations stationed in the liberated territories, as well as other officers were also involved in the meeting held via video communication, the ministry’s press service reported.
The Defence Ministry’s press service on July 17 reported that the positions of the Azerbaijan Army were subjected to fire along the entire length of the state border.
The ministry said that on July 16, from 20:40 to 22:30, and on July 17 at about 01:00, the Armenian armed forces units in the positions in the territory of the Yukhari Shorzha village of the Basarkechar region, and from the direction of the Mosesgekh village of the Berd region using small arms have periodically fired at the positions of the Azerbaijan Army in the direction of the Istisu village in the Kalbajar region and the Aghdam village of Tovuz region accordingly.
On July 17, at 08:30, the Armenian armed forces units located near the Arazdeyen village of the Vedi region using various caliber weapons subjected to fire the Azerbaijan Army’s positions in the direction of the Sadarak region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, it added.
The ministry reported no losses.
