Azerbaijan on August 5 reported that Armenian opened fire at its position in four border regions in violation of the November 10 statement that ended hostilities between the two countries.
The Defence Ministry reported that Armenian units, using small arms, fired at Azerbaijani positions on August 4, starting from 14:50 to 00:00 (GMT+4) from Arazdeyen settlement of the Vedi region, Yukhari Shorzha, Azizli, Shishgaya, and Garaiman settlements of the Basarkechar region, the Ardanish settlement of the Chambarak region.
The Azerbaijani positions that came under fire are located in the Heydarabad settlement of the Sadarak region (in Nakhchivan exclave), Novoivanovka and Galakend settlements of the Gadabay region, Istisu and Yellija settlements of the Kalbajar region, the Tazakend settlement of the Dashkasan region.
The situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border has been tense in recent weeks with the two countries accusing each other of violating the cease-fire violation.
The Azerbaijani Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov on August 2 urged the Army to be ready in case of the Armenian provocation. He issued a similar warning on July 17 after series of cease-fire violations by Armenia in Aghdam and Kalbajar regions.
