Azerbaijan celebrates Armed Forces Day

Azerbaijanis today celebrate the 103rd anniversary of the country’s Armed Forces.

The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan were established by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) in 1918.

The original name of the Armed Forces was Detached Corps of Azerbaijan.

From the first days of its establishment, the units of the Azerbaijani Army fought against illegally formed Armenian armed forces throughout the country and became the guarantor the ADR’s independence until the Bolshevik occupation in 1923.

After Azerbaijan’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, he historic day – June 26 was declared the Day of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan.

Today the Azerbaijani Armed are the strongest in the South Caucasus with the army being equipped with state-of-the-art military weaponry.

Azerbaijan held a military parade on December 10 in Baku to celebrate its victory over the Armenian army in the war in autumn 2020. Azerbaijan’s military operations during the war have been praised by experts as an example of successful modern warfare.

The Armed Forces held their first military parade back in 1919.
