Azerbaijan reports 31 cases of delta strain coronavirus variant

Azerbaijan has identified 31 cases of new Delta Covid-19 variant, the Health Ministry, State Agency for Compulsory Health Insurance and the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units said in a joint statement on July 13.

Delta, which is a highly contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus strain, has been identified in 31 people who arrived in the country.

Nine other people have been identified to have an Alpha strain (B.1.1.7).

The Health Ministry said that “Azerbaijan is at the forefront in terms of the measures which are taken against SARS-CoV-2, the process of organizing and studying the effectiveness of vaccination.”

The ministry stressed that the Genetic Diagnostics Center of the National Hematology and Transfusion Center regularly studies genetic variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus as part of the measures, which are taken to control the epidemiological situation in Azerbaijan.

The ministry urged citizens to get vaccinated without delay, saying that he most effective way to protect against new and rapidly spreading dangerous variants of the virus is vaccination and adding that “the current epidemiological situation in the country is stable thanks to vaccination.”

Azerbaijan the nation of ten million has vaccinated over four million of its citizens against COVID-19 in the nationwide vaccination process since January 18.

As of July 13, Azerbaijan has registered 337,456 COVID-19 cases and 4,988 coronavirus-related deaths. The number of recovered patients is 330,873.
