Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations on July 30 announced that it was sending 500 firefighters, a helicopter, necessary equipment to Turkey to extinguish forest fires and prevent their further spread.
The aid to the fraternal country is sent in line with President Ilham Aliyev’s instructions, the ministry said.
Earlier today, Presidential Aide Hikmat Hajiyev announced that relevant government agencies have contacted their counterparts from Turkey, and “aid teams will leave for the brotherly country as soon as possible.”
Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Cahit Bagci expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for support in connection with forest fires.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva expressed their condolences of the deadly wildfires in Turkey. Aliyev said that stressing that “the Azerbaijani government and people are in solidarity with the fraternal Turkish people” amidst the deadly fires.
Four people have lost their lives in forest fires that broke out in Turkish provinces on July 28. Fires continue in some areas.
