Azerbaijani martial art fighter Orkhan Ismatzade has won a gold medal at a sambo championship held in North Carolina in the US.
Ismatzade was fighting in the 98 kg weight category. Born in Azerbaijan, Ismatzade currently resides in Miami, Florida.
Earlier on May 16, Azerbaijani judoist Zaur Jalil (Azerturk) won a gold at the American Judo Championship held in Reno, Nevada, US, in the weight category of 73 kg, the State Committee on the Work with Diaspora told APA. Zaur Jalil said at the award ceremony that he dedicated his victory to Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region liberated from the Armenian occupation.
This was Zaur’s third gold at judo championships held in the US.
