Azerbaijanis in Houston, Texas rallied on June 8 to protest civilian deaths caused by Armenian mines in and around Nagorno-Karabakh.
The protest rally was held following the killing of two Azerbaijani journalists and a local official in Kalbajar region on June 4.
The rally participants carried portraits of the killed journalists – Azertag’s reporter Maharram Ibrahimov and AZTV’s cameraman Siraj Abishov – who lost their lives while on duty as the crew bus carrying them exploded on a mine. The two had been stationed in Kalbajar to document Kalbajar’s destruction during the years of occupation.
The rally participants laid flowers on a corner in one of its central parks to commemorate the journalists.
Over 20 Azerbaijani citizens, including 14 civilians have been killed and more than 85 injured in mine explosions since Azerbaijan regained control over its territories in last year’s war.
Armenia has refused to provide maps of thousands of mines it planted in Nagorno-Karabakh and the seven surrounding regions that it occupied since the war in the early 1990s.
