Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov has won a victory over Former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov.
Mammadyarov beat his rival in seven moves in the third stage of Grand Chess Tour series held in Zegreb, Croatia on July 7-11.
Making a post in his Facebook page following the game, Mammadyarov described Kasparov as his “most favorite chess player” and his victory over the grandmaster as “part of the history”.
Earlier, Mammadyarov won the Superbet Chess Classic tournament held in Romania.
Mammadyarov is a three-fold European Team Champion and gold medalist at the 2012 Chess Olympiad on the third board.
It should be noted that another Azerbaijani grandmaster Teymur Rajabov also won a victory over legendary Kasparov back in 2003 at the age of 15 in the Linares tournament followed by victories over former world champions Viswanathan Anand and Ruslan Ponomariov.
