Azerbaijan’s 120-strong peacekeeping mission will continue its service in Afghanistan despite the Taliban’s take over of power in Kabul.

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry reported on August 15 that the Azerbaijani peacekeepers, along with Turkish forces, will continue to protect the Kabul international airport.

The ministry said that it is closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan.

Azerbaijani peacekeepers have been carrying out their mission in Afghanistan since November 20, 2002.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan on August 15 as Taliban seized capital Kabul, securing the full control over the country.
