Azerbaijani and Turkish presidents on Tuesday signed Shusha Declaration on allied relations, during Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Nagorno-Karabakh.
One of the most important elements of Declaration is the agreement on the military cooperation.
Under the declaration, Azerbaijan and Turkey will render each other necessary assistance in line with the UN Charter in case of a threat or aggression from a third state or states against the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability or security of the internationally recognized borders of any side.
Addressing the presser in Shusha, Ilham Aliyev said that the Joint Declaration contains a reference to the Treaty of Kars signed in 1921.
“The historic Kars agreement was signed exactly 100 years ago. This also has a great symbolic meaning. The Joint Declaration on allied relations signed in the liberated city of Shusha after 100 years shows the direction of our future cooperation,” Aliyev said.
The Shusha Declaration envisages joint efforts to restructure and modernize the armed forces in accordance with modern requirements, improve the skills of joint activity of the armed forces of the two countries, closely cooperate in using weapons and ammunition based on modern technologies.
Erdogan visited Shusha city in Nagorno-Karabakh on June 15 as part of his two-day visit to Azerbaijan. He was received in Fuzuli region by President Ilham Aliyev from where the two presidents traveled to Shusha together. Aliyev briefed Erdogan about the reconstruction of Shusha after 28 years of its occupation.
