Azerbaijan’s capital Baku hosted the first meeting of the Council of Prosecutors-General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (Turkic Council) on November 1.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a video message to the meeting, saying “Interaction and exchange of experience will bring us closer to the goals. The Turkic Council will gain international status as it strengthens with new members.”

At the meeting, Azerbaijani Prosecutor-General Kamran Aliyev stressed that the council, to be established on the basis of friendship and brotherhood, would serve to respond to threats to regional security, peace, and stability and become an effective tool for developing present capacities and coordinating interaction.

The meeting was also attended by the ambassadors of the Turkic Council member countries and Hungary in Azerbaijan.

The decision to set up the Council of Prosecutors within the framework of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States was made in Nakhchivan in October 2009 at the 9th summit of the heads of the Turkic-speaking States.

The Turkic Council, officially the Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, is an international organization comprising some of the Turkic countries consisting of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. It was set up in October 2009 in Nakhchivan.
