Azerbaijani president on July 27 received Governor of the State of Oklahoma, US, John Kevin Stitt.
State-owned Azertag reported that Aliyev and Stitt pointed out the importance of the visit, underlined the successful development of bilateral ties between Azerbaijan and US and hailed Azerbaijan’s cooperation with various US states, including Oklahoma since the early 2000s.
Stitt announced on July 26 that he landed in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku for a week-long trip to “promote and expand Oklahoma’s strategic partnerships with Azerbaijan.”
“I am honored to accept President Ilham Aliyev’s invitation to visit Azerbaijan and look forward to productive meetings with his administration on ways we can continue to work together,” Stitt said in a statement from his office.
He stressed Oklahoma and the southern Caucasus country Azerbaijan have a shared focus on energy, agriculture, and innovation and that he is “excited to explore this country and meet the Azerbaijani people.”
The governor said that Oklahoma National Guard and the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry have been cooperating for about 20 years, and the cooperation has now become a broader format of partnership.
Azertag reported that Stitt has expressed his hope to visit Azerbaijan’s recently-liberated Zangilan district that will enable him to get closely familiarized with the “green energy” and “smart village” projects Azerbaijan is implementing in those areas.
