Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that he is ready for resumption of peace negotiations with Azerbaijan and is awaiting proposals to this end.

In a surprise statement made on August 12, Pashinyan said Armenia welcomes the OSCE Minsk Group’s statement on peace talks and is ready for negotiations on the highest level.

“We are waiting for specific proposals,” said Pashinyan.

Pashinyan’s statement comes against the backdrop of cross-border clashes between the two countries that failed to reach an agreement on demarcation of the state border since the end of war in 2020.

In Pashinyan’s words, an international monitoring mechanism was needed in order for de-escalating and stabilizing the situation.

He reminded that he proposed on July 29 that either the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization CSTO), of which Armenia is a member or the OSCE Minsk Group oversee the peace negotiations with Azerbaijan.
