As Azerbaijan regained control over most of its territories in last year’s war, the scale of destruction under 30 years of Armenian occupation became clear.

It was revealed that the destruction has been inflicted on most buildings and even graves in the formerly-occupied territories.

On June 6, Presidential Aide Hikmat Hajiyev shared a photo of a trench dug by Armenian soldiers between the graves of two sisters in Aghdam region.

“Seringul and Teyara sisters buried side by side – as close in death as they’d been in life. Their gravestones were separated by military trench of Armenian forces in Aghdam. No words to depict essence and scale of Armenian vandalism. Even graveyards not spared,” he tweeted.

Aghdam, known as Hiroshimo of the Caucasus for the level of destruction, was completely destroyed in the past three decades.

Azerbaijani President llham Aliyev recently that the level of destruction in the newly-liberated lands was worse than expected.

Azerbaijan regained control over Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin regions in line with the Russian-brokered November 10 trilateral statement that ended the war between two South Caucasus countries.

Before the signing of the statement, the Azerbaijani Army liberated Shusha city in Nagorno-Karabakh and around 300 city centers, villages and settlements that were occupied during the Nagorno-Karabakh war in the early 1990s.
